Welcome to Wylie, Texas!!
I am not a born and raised Wyliean but I will try
to introduce you to my community, and be as
accurate as I can. I am hoping that some of the
residents of Wylie will post additional information
here as well.
The bulk of Wylie is located in Collin County Texas
We are number 8 in fastest growing cities in the
nation, and the population density is low at 1504
people per sq. mi., and there is still plenty of open
land here. When I moved here in 2000 the
population was around 16,000 and in seven years
has grown to about 32,000+, the housing boom is
still flourishing in Wylie with new home construction
just coming out of the ground.
The city as a result has expanded into surrounding
counties such as Dallas County, and Rockwall County.
We sit right in the middle between Lake Lavon, and
Lake Ray Hubbard, and both are within minutes of
us, and are considered some of the largest man made
lakes around Texas. So if fishing and water sports are
your passion there is no end to it here.
We now have all of the amenities of any large town
with manufacturing plants moving into the area, and
local and chain restaurants available as well. We also
have two major shopping malls within 10 miles of us
one in Garland, and one in Plano Texas.
Wylie was originally founded in the 1870’s as Nickleville
Texas because of the name of the first store which was
in business. But, more on that later.
So this is a little bit about Wylie, Texas. I love it here
and will more than likely die here.
